The Lancaster Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service can be reached by calling (717) 393-0737 Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m. (noon).
A brief recorded description of how the service works (available in English and Spanish) may answer some callers’ initial questions. Those interested in scheduling a referral can then speak with the Lawyer Referral Coordinator, who will connect callers with experienced panel attorneys to discuss their legal issues.
The Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) collects a non-refundable fifty dollar ($50) fee prior to making a referral to an attorney. Included in this fee is a 30-minute consultation with an LRS attorney, which is usually held in person at the attorney’s office but can be conducted over the phone under special circumstances. At the time of the consultation the attorney will advise the potential client of any additional costs and fees beyond the initial thirty minutes. Additional fees are to be expected should the attorney agree to represent an individual beyond the consultation.
The Lawyer Referral Service does not provide “pro bono” services or free legal consultations. Those seeking to learn more about the possibility of receiving free legal assistance may want to contact Mid Penn Legal Services at (717) 299-0971 for assistance with civil matters, or Bail Administration at (717) 295-3584 for assistance with criminal matters.
